The Red Wings have officially signed their prospect with an eye-catching name for the Hockeytown crowd.
Gustav Lindstrom has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Wings, the NHL franchise that drafted him in the second round of last year’s NHL Draft.
Between being the No. 38 overall pick and having a last name that is uncomfortably similar to that of the great Nick Lidstrom, he’s certainly a unique prospect for Wings fans to keep an eye on.
And yes, he wore No. 5 at last year’s World Junior Summer Showcase.
This past season, Lindstrom played with Almtuna IS of the Allsvenskan league – Sweden’s second highest hockey league. He record 14 points in 38 games, along with a +2 rating and 34 penalty minutes.
The Red Wings’ release says he will play for Frolunda HC of the Swedish Hockey League for the 2018-19 season.
Lindstrom helped Sweden to a silver medal during the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo, recording one assist in seven games.
