Update (6:10 p.m. ET): The Red Wings have officially announced that they have agreed in principle to terms with Andreas Athanasiou on a one-year contract.

Update (5:03 p.m. ET): Per Bob McKenzie of TSN, the Red Wings and forward Andreas Athanasiou have agreed to terms on a one-year contract.

The Wings now need to find the cap room to actually sign the quick-footed forward. Per McKenzie, he is still in Switzerland.

Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada is reporting that Andreas Athanasiou and the Detroit Red Wings are closing in on a one-year agreement.

The 23-year-old restricted free agent forward and the team had been substantially apart in contract negotiations.
In 101 career NHL games, Athanasiou has 27 goals and 16 assists for 43 total points.
