Dominik Shine was able to play his college hockey career in his home state.

His professional career will start in Michigan, too.

The Northern Michigan standout has signed with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the AHL club announced today.

Shine, a native of Pinckney, has signed an amateur tryout for the remainder of the 2016-17 season.

The 23-year-old forward played four seasons for NMU, racking up 97 points and 185 penalty minutes in 131 games. He was a two-time captain of the Wildcats, as well.

He’s an alum of the USHL’s Lincoln stars and Little Caesars (bantams) and Compuware (midget minor).
