Detroit had placed Pulkkinen on waivers with the intentions of sending him to Grand Rapids.
He is the second Red Wings player lost on waivers this week; Martin Frk was claimed on Sunday by Carolina.
Pulkkinen slipped all the way to Minnesota, who were 17th last season. I’d heard Babcock wasn’t a huge fan – would explain Leafs passing.

Pulkkinen had scored 11 goals and nine assists in 70 games with the Red Wings over the course of three seasons.
With the waiver claim, the Red Wings’ roster now stands at 23 players, which means they do not need to make any other moves prior to their season opener on Thursday against Tampa Bay.
