Fans on the east side of Michigan that have wanted to see the Grand Rapids Griffins play are in luck.
The Red Wings’ American Hockey League affiliate announced two neutral-site pre-season games with the Lake Erie Monsters today – one of which will be played at Yost Ice Arena.
The Griffins will play the Monsters at Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio, on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. The next night, Sunday, Oct. 7, the Griffins and Monsters will face-off again in the newly renovated Yost Ice Arena. Puck drop for the game on the University of Michigan campus is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The release states that the two contests will comprise the Griffins’ first slate of preseason games since the 2005-06 season.
Also, the game in Toledo is part of an event called the “Hockey Showdown in T-Town”, which features four youth hockey games starting at 11 a.m., and an ECHL exhibition game involving the Toledo Walleye – the Red Wings’ ECHL affiliate. Tickets cost $5, with the proceeds benefitting the “Walleye Wishing Well” charitable fund. Tickets can be purchased by visiting toledowalleye.com or calling (419) 725-9255).
