The Detroit Red Wings announced today the details for the organization’s sixth season of the “Little Wings” program, designed to introduce new hockey players to the sport at a young age.
Registration is now open for the “Little Wings” program, which welcomes children ages 5-8 to the game with six one-hour sessions of on-ice instruction and a full set of hockey gear, all for only $150.
The Red Wings, the NHL and the NHLPA all financially support the program to make it cost-effective for new hockey families. Participants receive and get to keep all equipment, including ice skates, a helmet, shoulder pads, gloves, elbow pads, hockey pants, shin guards, hockey socks, a hockey stick, an equipment bag and a Little Wings jersey.
Participants will have the opportunity to be properly fitted for equipment during a fitting event on Jan. 4 and Jan. 5. The 2020 on-ice sessions will start on Saturday, Jan. 25 at participating rink locations.
