As it stands right now, the Red Wings are actually under the NHL roster limit by one player.
Detroit has announced three roster moves, with Luke Witkowski, Joe Hicketts and Filip Hronek all being assigned to Grand Rapids.
That brings the team’s active roster to 22 players, one below the mandated 23-man roster.
With the assignments of all three (Witkowski bounces between forward and defense), it appears that Libor Sulak has cracked the Opening Night line-up. He will be joining Dennis Cholowski as a fresh face on the blue line; more changes could be coming, as well, as the team sorts through injury situations with the likes of Niklas Kronwall, Mike Green and Jonathan Ericsson.
#RedWings Blashill said Kronwall out Thursday, Daley highly likely, Ericsson very questionable.

#RedWings assigned D-man Joe Hicketts and Filip Hronek as well as D/F Luke Witkowski to @griffinshockey to get down to 22 players by today’s 5 p.m. deadline. But injuries to Kronwall, Ericsson likely will result in Hronek an/or Hicketts coming right back.
