In an All-Michigan battle to officially start their seasons, Michigan State topped Northern Michigan 4-2 Friday night at Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing. Mitch Lewandowski registered the game-winning goal for the Spartans with 1:14 remaining in regulation; Zach Osburn, Brennan Sanford and Taro Hirose (empty-netter) also scored for MSU. Tony Bretzman and Darien Craighead scored for Northern, while goaltender Atte Tolvanen stopped 41 shots sent his way. John Lethemon recorded the win for the Spartans between the pipes, stopping 21.
