One day after the NHL Draft, the Red Wings are making moves in the organization’s depth on the blue line.
The Wings just announced that they have traded Robbie Russo to the Arizona Coyotes for a conditional seventh-round pick.
That comes on the heels of multiple reports that the team has placed Xavier Ouellet on waivers with the intention of buying him out. The team won’t be announcing that until a buyout is finalized, pending him clearing waivers.
Xavier Ouellet is on unconditional waivers today for the purpose of a buyout. The #redwings are on the hook for 1/3 of his remaining salary since he’s under age 26 (breakdown from @CapFriendly): pic.twitter.com/mMWAMa9jXW

Russo has one year left on the two-year deal he signed with the Wings heading into the 2017-18 campaign.
