Another youngster in the Red Wings’ system may be getting his shot with the NHL club this week.
Detroit has recalled defenseman Joe Hicketts from Grand Rapids, undoubtedly in response to Trevor Daley’s injury last night against Carolina.
The 21-year-old blueliner is in the midst of his second professional season. He was signed by the Wings as an undrafted free agent in 2014.
He led the Griffins’ defense in scoring last year, racking up 34 points in 73 games; Hicketts also recorded a blueliner-high of eight points in the postseason as Grand Rapids claimed an AHL title.
