On Wednesday, there will be a ceremony at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth.
It will be a special moment for the Detroit Catholic Central hockey family.
The Olympic ice sheet at the two-rink facility will be named in honor of Mitchel Kiefer, the former DCC goaltender who was killed in a car accident on his way to his freshman year of college at Michigan State.
Home of the DCC hockey program, the ice sheet will now be known as the Mitchel Kiefer Memorial Rink.
The rink naming will come in conjunction with a partnership formed between the rink and the Mitchel Kiefer Foundation, created by the Kiefer family to combat distracted driving.
Prior to @dcchockey game Wednesday Dec 6 @USAHockeyArena there will be a rink dedication in memory of Mitchel Kiefer. Game time is 7:30pm, please arrive early and support the Kiefer family, friends, classmates and teammates #MITCHELKIEFERMEMORIALRINK #30 #ccpride pic.twitter.com/gbYVmjldgV
