Announced late last week, the Red Wings are helping the City of Detroit Parks & Recreation Department transform Jack Adams Memorial Arena and Adams Butzel Recreation Complex in downtown Detroit.
The Wings, the City of Detroit Parks & Rec and the organization ‘Summer in the City’ will be painting large-scale, hockey-themed murals on the exterior of Jack Adams Arena – they will measure more than 300 feet long and 18 feet high.
Fans and Jack Adams Arena patrons can vote online for their favorite of seven mural design options at RedWings.com/MuralVote.
Voting will close on Friday at 5 p.m., and the mural will be painted on Friday, Aug. 12 by a team of community members and volunteers associated with ‘Summer in the City’ during the non-profit’s annual “Finale Friday” celebration, which also features youth enrichment programming, park beautification and a barbecue.
Jack Adams Memorial Arena – named after the former Detroit Red Wings head coach and general manager – opened in 1981. It is currently the only indoor, public ice arena within the City of Detroit.
