Luke Glendening’s first experience with the national program has been cut short.

The Detroit Red Wings’ forward has been sent home prior to Team USA’s exhibition contest with Finland at the 2016 IIHF Men’s World Championship in Helsinki, due to a lingering injury.

Glendening, a Grand Rapids native and University of Michigan alum, was added to the Team USA roster the same day the Red Wings cleaned out their lockers.

Per Ansar Khan of MLive, Glendening had a foot/ankle injury he was dealing with at the end of the Wings’ season.
