March was an incredible month of hockey for Gustav Nyquist, and because of it, the Red Wings’ budding star is the NHL’s second star of the month.
The league announced today that Nyquist, 24, made their list for the top three individual performances from the previous month. The Red Wings’ forward joins first star Jarome Iginla and third star Claude Giroux in this month’s three-star selections.
Nyquist ranked second in the league in goals scored for March, as he racked up 12 for the Wings. He tied for fifth with 18 points, as well, helping the Wings to a 7-6-2 record that moved them into the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
The University of Maine product had a six-game goal streak from March 16-25, the longest by a Detroit player since Dan Cleary’s scoring spree in November 2010.
