Welcome to another season of MiHockey’s Michi-gamer!
We take great pride in our homegrown talent. Whether they grew up in the Mitten or we welcomed them here for college or juniors, they are our own. They represent the best place in the world for hockey.
Every day, we’ll keep an eye on those players, and every morning, we will pick one Michi-gamer of the night – one Michigan player who stood out above the rest.
NOVEMBER 26 – TOREY KRUG
Livonia native Torey Krug picked the right time to score his seventh goal of the season last night. The Boston rookie defenseman sent a perfectly-aimed slapshot from the face-off dot past Pittsburgh goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury at the 0:34 mark of overtime to give his Bruins a 4-3 OT win over one of their main rivals. Krug, former captain of the Michigan State Spartans, leads all freshman blueliners in scoring this season, with seven goals and and eight assists for 15 points. Krug’s only three points behind Tomas Hertl for the rookie scoring lead. After his playoff heroics last spring, nobody should really be surprised. Check out his game-winning goal, which is embedded below.

NOVEMBER 25 – ANDY MIELE
Andy Miele enjoyed his Saturday night. The Grosse Pointe Woods native scored the game-tying goal for his Portland Pirates, forcing overtime and eventually a shootout that he would score in, as well. Miele, who won the Hobey Baker during his time at Miami University, finished with one goal, one assist, three shots on goal, a +1 rating, and a big ‘W’ for his Portland squad in their 4-3 victory over Norfolk. Miele now has six goals and eight assists for 14 points in 13 AHL games. He has also played in four NHL games this season, recording two assists in the time-frame.
