Former three-time Stanley Cup winner Sergei Fedorov has been added to the Detroit Red Wings’ alumni roster for the 2013 Maple Leafs vs. Red Wings Alumni Showdown, the Red Wings announced Wednesday.
Fedorov will join the rest of the “Russian Five” at the game: Igor Larionov, Vyacheslav Kozlov, Viacheslav “Slava” Fetisov and Vladimir Konstantinov, who will appear as a special guest. The game will take place Tuesday, Dec. 31 at Comerica Park as a component to the 2013 SiriusXM Hockeytown Winter Festival.
Fedorov joined the Red Wings in 1990 after being drafted by Detroit in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. He played in Detroit until 2003, and also had stints with Anaheim, Columbus and Washington.
In his 1,248 games in a Red Wings sweater, Fedorov worked his way into the record books. He still is fourth in Red Wings’ all-time goal scorers (400), fifth in assists (554), fifth in points (954) and seventh in career games (908).
In the 1993-94 season, Fedorov won the Hart Trophy, awarded to the league’s most valuable player, and the Ted Lindsay Award, the most outstanding player selected by NHL players. He also is a two-time Frank J. Selke winner (1993-94, 1995-96), recognizing his two-way style of play.
Additionally, Fedorov is a three-time Olympian for his native Russia, earning silver in 2002 and bronze in 1998.
