It was almost a clean sweep for the Michigan schools in this week’s WCHA players of the week list, as three of the four selections have went to Michigan residents.
Northern Michigan’s Griffin Loughran and Nolan Kent were honored by the college hockey conference today, as was Ferris State’s Nate Kallen.
Nick Wicks of Alaska Anchorage was named the rookie of the week – the lone selection not coming out of Michigan.
Loughran was named forward of the week after helping Northern Michigan to a two-game sweep over Ferris State to open WCHA play. The sophomore forward, a native of West Seneca, N.Y., scored four goals in the weekend – two of which were game-winners for NMU.
Kent, meanwhile, led the Wildcats to a 6-4 win Friday, and his career-high 39 saves were enough to earn him goaltender of the week honors despite only playing in one contest on the week.
Kallen was named defenseman of the week after registering three points – one power-play goal and two assists – in the same weekend series.
