Northern Michigan records undefeated weekend in trip to Boston University

A trip to Boston to take on the No. 20 team in the country didn’t bother Northern Michigan this weekend.

The Wildcats played a two-game set with Boston University on Friday and Saturday, and they headed back home with a tie and a win.

On Friday, Northern Michigan rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the third period to force overtime and an eventual 4-4 tie. After a Joseph Nardi first-period goal was erased by four straight BU tallies, Vincent de Mey, Caleb Schroer and Darien Craighead all found the back of the net for NMU.

John Hawthorne continued to be stellar between the pipes, stopping 35 shots Friday night.

Highlights from BU:

The following evening was a back-and-forth affair, before de Mey’s second of the night gave NMU a lead BU couldn’t overcome. Craighead and Griffin Loughran also scored for the Wildcats in their second-straight win of the weekend, while Nolan Kent stopped 27 shots between the pipes.

Highlights from BU:

de Mey was named the WCHA’s forward of the week after his three goals; it’s the second time the Los Angeles native has earned said recognition in as many weeks.

Northern Michigan opens WCHA play this week, as the ‘Cats travel to Ferris State for a pair of games with the Bulldogs.
