The Broncos didn’t get the result they wanted at the 2019 Ice Breaker Tournament, but they certainly ended their trip to Toledo on a high note.
No. 14 Western Michigan beat No. 17 Bowling Green – the ‘hometown team’ in the prestigious season-opening college hockey tournament – 5-2 on Saturday night at the Huntington Center for their first win of the 2019-2020 season.
The win came one day after WMU tied Ohio State before falling in the shootout that decided who would advance to the Ice Breaker championship game.
Five players scored for the Broncos in the victory, including rookie blueliner and reigning USA Hockey junior player of the year Ronnie Attard of White Lake.
Drew Worrad, Ethen Frank, Austin Rueschhoff and Wade Allison also found the back of the net in the victory, while Muskegon Lumberjacks alum Brandon Bussi stopped 31 shots in his second-straight start and first NCAA victory.
