Road trips don’t often go well when the destination is Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D.
The Broncos enjoyed their stay on the campus of North Dakota this past weekend, however.
Western Michigan recorded a pair of wins Friday and Saturday to record a weekend sweep on the road against the then-No. 11 team in the country. It was the Broncos’ first weekend sweep at North Dakota in school history.
On Friday, the Broncos registered a 2-0 victory, thanks to a 32-save shutout performance from Trevor Gorsuch and third-period goals from Josh Passolt and Colt Conrad.
The next night, the scorekeepers at The Ralph were a little busier, as the Broncos racked up six goals, compared to North Dakota’s two. Passolt added two goals and five assists to bring his weekend total to seven points, while Conrad scored again, as well. Corey Schueneman, Wade Allison and Hugh McGing all found the back of the net in the sweep-sealing win, while Gorsuch made 30 saves between the pipes.
