The first-ever Big Ten playoff game at Yost Ice Arena certainly did not disappoint. The Wolverines and the Wisconsin Badgers treated the Children of Yost and the rest of the crowd to a 6-5 thriller and a Game 1 victory for the University of Michigan in the best-of-three quarterfinal match-up. Captain Tony Calderone recorded a hat trick and another for the Wolverines, while Quinn Hughes and Jake Slaker also found of the back of the net in the barn-burner. Hayden Lavigne won’t like his goals-against average from the night, but at the same time, he stopped 48 shots for the Wolverines. The two clubs go at it again tomorrow night, and a third game if necessary Sunday evening. Who knows how many goals will be scored before this quarterfinal series is over.
