PLYMOUTH – For the first time in more than three decades, Detroit Country Day has won a state title in boys’ ice hockey.
Thanks to a late second-period goal from Mickey VanAntwerp and an early third-period goal from Noah Thewes, the Yellowjackets prevailed 2-1 over Livonia Churchill in the 2018 MHSAA Division 3 state title game Saturday afternoon at USA Hockey Arena.
Sam Evola recorded the victory between the pipes for Country Day, which finishes the season with a 28-2-1 record.
Seth Kucharczyk scored the lone goal for the Chargers, pulling Livonia Churchill within one with 7:53 remaining in regulation.
