One year after being named WCHA Rookie of the Year, Abby Roque has been named a finalist for WCHA Player of the Year.
Roque, a Sault Ste. Marie native and Wisconsin Badgers sophomore forward, has recorded nine goals and 28 assists for 37 points in 36 games this season – good for third in the nation in scoring. In conference, she has posted 6-15–21 in 24 games. She has already been named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Year for her efforts.
The other three candidates include Ohio State freshman Emma Maltais (WCHA Rookie of the Year), Minnesota senior defenseman Sydney Baldwin (WCHA Defenseman of the Year) and Wisconsin sophomore netminder Kristen Campbell (WCHA Goaltender of the Year). The WCHA will unveil its Player of the Year winner on Tuesday.
Roque formerly skated for the Sault High Blue Devils boys’ high school hockey team before joining the collegiate ranks.
