Last time there was a major outdoor hockey game in Buffalo, the game went to a shootout.
Last time Team USA and Canada met in the World Juniors, the game went to a shootout.
Today at Buffalo’s New Era Field – the place where the first NHL Winter Classic played to a snowy shootout between the Penguins and Sabres – the U.S. beat Canada in a shootout in their first meeting at the 2018 World Juniors…the same way the 2017 edition of the tournament ended.
NTDP alums Kieffer Bellows and Brady Tkachuk scored in the shootout, while fellow NTDP product Jake Oettinger blanked the Canadians three times, as Team USA recorded an important come-from-behind victory Friday afternoon/evening.
