Max Jones scores Team USA’s first goal of World Juniors; U.S. smashes Denmark

Max Jones and Team USA didn’t waste any time filling up the scoresheets at the 2018 World Junior Championship in Buffalo.

Jones, a Rochester native and London Knights forward, scored 2:27 into the host country’s first game, putting the U.S. on track for a resounding 9-0 victory over Denmark Tuesday night.

Fifteen different players registered points for the defending champions; Kieffer Bellows and Casey Middelstadt led the scoring charge for Team USA with two goals apiece.

NTDP alum Joseph Woll was a perfect 17-for-17 between the pipes for the American squad.

How the Michigan names fared:

  • Max Jones – 1 goal, 1 assist, +1 rating, 5 shots, 13:41 time-on-ice
  • Josh Norris – 2 assists, +1 rating, 2 shots, 15:35 time-on-ice
  • Will Lockwood – No scoring line, 10:09 time-on-ice
  • Quinn Hughes – 2 assists, +4 rating, 1 shot, 20:43 time-on-ice
