USA Hockey announced today that the governing body is off to a strong start with their new fundraising initiative for girls’ and women’s hockey.
The “Friends of Women’s Hockey Fund” was recently launched by the USA Hockey Foundation in an effort to raise $500,000 annually from corporate and individual donors to support the U.S. Women’s National Team and girls’/women’s hockey in general.
“We’re excited about this effort and it’s been great to see the enthusiasm out of the gate from our Trustee level donors and Board to help fuel our goal,” said Pat Kelleher, executive director of USA Hockey and The USA Hockey Foundation.
Nearly $100,000 has already been committed to the fund, most notably a $50,000 matching gift pledge from donors John and Johanna Boynton. Other donations have from board members John Fleming, Paul George, Peter Karmanos, Nick Lopardo and Jack and Gretchen Norqual.
“While it’s tremendous to have a matching gift like the Boyntons pledged, it’s important we take advantage of that and get those supportive of our efforts to contribute,” said Kelleher. “It doesn’t matter what the dollar amount, every bit helps and will make a difference.”
