The Michigan Wolverines will be looking for a new captain for the 2016-17 season.
Captain JT Compher has signed with the Colorado Avalanche, the NHL team announced today.
Compher’s exit follows that of his two linemates from last season – the famed ‘CCM Line’ of Compher, Kyle Connor and Tyler Motte have all signed NHL contracts after being named Hobey Baker finalists and leading Michigan back to the NCAA Tournament.
The Avalanche acquired Compher’s rights from the Buffalo Sabres last summer; the National Team Development Program alum and Northbrook, Ill., native was drafted in the second round of the 2013 NHL Draft.
Last season, he posted 63 points in 38 games – second behind only Connor in the NCAA scoring race.
Coach Red Berenson will be back for another season in Ann Arbor, but it will be noticeably different roster after the departures of Compher, Connor, Motte, Zach Werenski and Michael Downing.
