College hockey continues to carry the banner for a key academic measuring stick among all NCAA sports.

Men’s ice hockey maintained its place atop the NCAA’s Academic Progress Rate, it was announced today. The APR is calculated by points totals for all athletic sports at each school – student-athletes receive one point each semester for remaining academically eligible for competition, and one point for staying in school or graduating.

Through 2014-15, men’s ice hockey posted a 987 cumulative score, one point higher than gymnastics. Women’s ice hockey, meanwhile, posted a 992, tying with gymnastics.

“Division I student-athletes learn to balance playing a sport they love with the pursuit of a degree, and we honor their continued success in the classroom,” said NCAA president Mark Emmert. “The APR data prove that students can achieve both academically and athletically. Supporting our students as they work toward graduation is a top priority of everyone involved in college athletics.”
