As the hockey community raises money for a new scholarship created to remember the late Ryan Fischer, they’re holding an event that any hockey player would love to be a part of.

On Saturday, July 19, there will be a mini stick hockey tournament at the Georgetown Ice Center in Hudsonville. Teams can register for three-on-three or four-on-four division tournaments, and all the proceeds (and rug burns) will go towards the Ryan Fischer Legacy Scholarship. B&R Sports is leading the organization of the event, along with a great collection of other sponsors.

The scholarship, created to remember the former Grandville hockey standout who passed away on March 7, will be given to one OK Conference senior varsity hockey player.

Details on the scholarship (from RyanFischer.org):

  • To REMEMBER and honor the life of Ryan Fischer and all he stood for through his strong faith in God, his passion for his country, his unconditional love for all others and his zeal to live life to its fullest.
  • TO ENCOURAGE AND CHALLENGE area varsity hockey players to live a life that represents the integrity, character and sportsmanship that Ryan displayed in all facets of his life.
  • To RECOGNIZE one OK Conference senior varsity hockey player that best reflects Ryan’s life.
  • To ESTABLISH and promote a standard for all amateur athletes.
