The North American Hockey League announced their main individual league awards today, and one Michigan native received a top honor
Waterford native PJ Bridges was named the league’s goaltender of the year after a tremendous 2013-14 season with the Topeka RoadRunners.
The 20-year-old netminder had a big October, and from there, he took over the RoadRunners’ starting spot and led them all the way to the Robertson Cup semifinals. In 36 games this season, the 6-foot, 185-pound netminder recorded a 26-5-3 record and 10 shutouts. He also recorded a 1.54 goals-against average and .940 save percentage.
He was named the NAHL’s goalie of the month in January after leading the RoadRunners through a difficult time, as the team dealt with the loss of fellow Michigan native Peter Halash.
Bridges was also selected to play on Team South at the 2014 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in Troy.
Prior to the NAHL, Bridges played for Brother Rice High School and the Waterloo Siskins of the GOJHL.
