Another Michigan native has signed a USHL tender for the upcoming season.

Oakland Jr. Grizzlies defenseman Derek Daschke has signed a tender with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the Junior A league.

Daschke, a Troy native, recorded eight goals and 22 assists in 35 games with coach Mike Peruzzi and the Grizzlies’ Midget Minor team this season. He joins Mitch Eliot (Grosse Pointe) and Jalen Chatfield (Dearborn) as the Michigan natives who earned early invites to USHL clubs.

“We welcome Derek to the organization and we are thrilled that he’s a RoughRider! Derek is a versatile defenseman that will excel at both ends of the ice. He’s a quality person that wants to be great,” said Riders head coach and general manager Mark Carlson in a release.

Daschke will have to play in 50 percent of the RoughRiders’ games in the 2014-15 season. By tendering Daschke, the RoughRiders sacrifice a first-round draft pick in the Phase One Draft, as well.
