It might not be the medal they were aiming for, but Team USA will still be coming back with some hardware.
The U.S. National Women’s Under-18 Team fell to Canada by a score of 5-1 in the gold-medal game of the 2014 International Under-18 Women’s World Championship yesterday in Budapest, Hungary.
It was the first loss of the tournament for the U.S. squad, after they posted a perfect 4-0 record to reach the final contest. Team USA recorded a 6-1 win over Russia to start the tournament, then posted back-to-back 7-0 scores against Hungary and Sweden, respectively, to conclude the preliminary round.
In the semifinals, they beat the Czech Republic by a score of 3-1.
Farmington native Megan Keller finished with one goal and two assists for three points, along a tournament-leading +9 rating.
Sault Ste. Marie native Abby Roque matched Keller’s scoring line, and also had a +3 rating.
West Bloomfield native Tori Sullivan recorded one goal in the tournament, as well.
New York native Taylar Cianfarano was named the tournament’s top forward, while Missouri native Jincy Dunne was named best defenseman.
