Michigan State goaltender Jake Hildebrand helped his Spartans hang with the No. 1-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers, and the Big Ten took notice.

The sophomore goaltender helped the Spartans record a tie and a shootout win on Friday night and kept his team within a goal in a 3-2 loss on Saturday, which earned him the conference’s second star of the week, it was announced today.

Hildebrand, a native of Butler, Pa., led all Big Ten goaltenders with 79 saves and a .940 save percentage on the weekend. He recorded a season-high 44 saves and stopped all three shootout attempts on Friday, then added 35 saves on Saturday.

The Spartans’ goaltender ranks second in the conference with 305 saves this season.

Former NTDP star Nic Kerdiles (Wisconsin) was named the league’s first star, while Justin Kloos (Minnesota) was named third star.
