Shaved Ice – Feb. 11

Jimmy Howard had a nice weekend, eh?

The Red Wings goaltender returned to the crease this weekend after Petr Mrazek helped him to a lengthy break (in hockey-in-February terms, of course). Howard’s time off did him well – he stopped 68 of the 71 shots he faced over the Wings’ back-to-back wins against Edmonton and Los Angeles.

Detroit is now on a three-game winning streak, and they have posted a 6-3-1 record over their last 10 games. That puts them in second place in the Central Division behind only Chicago, a team that still hasn’t lost in regulation. The Wings are also in the fifth spot in the Western Conference.

Darren Eliot’s latest Special DElivery is posted – check out what the FSD analyst has to say about Jordin Tootoo.

Here are all of our recaps from the weekend’s college hockey games in one compact spot for you. You’re welcome.

The Wolverines were swept in South Bend, which means that no matter what the rest of the regular season brings, they will have a losing record for the first time since the 1986-87 season.

Here are the highlights from the Wings’ big win over the Kings in a nationally-televised game on NBC yesterday afternoon.

Jamie Langenbrunner need surgery on his hip, and will be out indefinitely.

Jaroslav Halak is returning from IR for the Blues – he was injured in a game against the Wings on Feb. 1. The netminder held a 3-0-0 record with two shutouts before getting shut down by the training staff.

NHL.com says that if the season ended today, Ottawa’s Craig Anderson would win the Vezina. Rinne and Crawford would be the finalists, too. That’s some Central Division love, but where’s Howard on the list, guys?

Here’s Ken Holland trying to figure out how to get the remote to work. You never know when the camera’s going to be on you.

See you…later today.
