Not to kick things off on a scary note, but it’s actually better news than it sounds. Should there be a lockout in the NHL this season, the league can elect to cancel the 2013 Winter Classic all the way up until Jan. 1. So, should a lockout eventually end in December, for example, this would allow the season to kick off with the Winter Classic.

One familiar personality in Detroit isn’t prepared to doom the Red Wings’ upcoming season just yet.
