Quick hits

USA Hockey announced yesterday that the Orchard Lake United Hockey Association (OLUHA) will be the first USA Hockey Model Association Program in the entire United States.

The Detroit News has reported that Jon Merrill will return to Ann Arbor for another season with the Wolverines.

The Wings have just announced via their Facebook page that the club has signed top pick Martin Frk to a three-year entry level contract.

The Red Wings also joined Mojo in the Morning and Angels of Hope last Friday to celebrate Christmas in July with Gracie Ford and her family.  Ford, 6, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma less than a year ago and the family was not able to truly celebrate Christmas due to high medical bills.

Actors Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis made an appearance at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto Monday to promote their new film, “The Campaign”.

Outside the Mitten

Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson will be returning for a 17th NHL season.  The 39-year-old is Ottawa’s franchise leader in a number of categories, including games played (1,131), goals (416), assists (666) and points (1,082).

Apparently, many NHL players are thoroughly enjoying the Olympics and are expressing their excitement via Twitter.

CCM will be the official sponsor of USA Hockey’s inaugural All-American Prospects Game in Buffalo this September.
