Help the Yaks raise money for Susan G. Komen

Yaks Give Back is backchecking breast cancer by hosting charity hockey game, silent auction, open skate in aid of Susan G. Komen for the Cure Mid-Michigan Affiliate

Yaks Give Back (a charity subsection of the Yaktopia Yaks – an Ann Arbor adult league hockey team) will be hosting a second annual charity event on Sunday, June 10. The 2012 Yaks for Racks event is a benefit for the Mid-Michigan Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists working to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures and has become the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world investing more than $1.9 billion since its inception. The event has a fundraising goal of over $15,000 – 95 percent of which stays with the Mid-Michigan affiliate. Michigan had an estimated 57,010 new cancer diagnoses in 2011 so these funds for breast exams and research are as needed as ever.

The awareness event will be held at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube (2121 Oak Valley Dr., Ann Arbor) beginning at 1 p.m. Within the event, attendees can enjoy two hockey games, an open ice skate hosted by the Ann Arbor Ice Cube, raffles, games, a silent auction, and more.

A special thanks to the Detroit Red Wings and Tigers who donated autographed memorabilia, Briarwood Ford who donated an autographed Detroit Pistons basketball and University of Michigan hockey tickets, Warrior Hockey for donating custom hockey sticks, and our many other silent auction donors.

The Yaktopia Yaks hope to see you on June 10, 2012 at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. To find out more about the event please visit their Facebook page.
