Way to go, Bulldogs.
Quick hits
Ferris State’s season continues. Either way, though, they’ve only got one game left. That’s what happens when you make it to the NCAA title game. With their 3-1 win over Union yesterday, the Bulldogs have secured their first trip to the last game of the college hockey season. There, they will see Jerry York and the Boston College Eagles, a team that has won 18 straight games, and a team that has been a favorite to finish as the top team in the country all season. At this point, however, I don’t think anything can scare the Bulldogs.
The national championship starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday. You can catch all the action on ESPN 2.
So that’s our good news for the day. The bad news is that the Red Wings lost last night. New Jersey’s 2-1 win at the Joe means that the Wings will be unable to catch Nashville for the fourth spot in the West and home ice in the first round.
Detroit’s season with a home date against the Blackhawks on Saturday. If they earn a point, the Wings will keep the fifth spot, and take on the Predators in the first round. If they lose in regulation, they will fall to sixth place, and take on the winner of the Pacific Division. That could be the Kings, the Coyotes…or the Sharks. If it’s one of the first two, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Wings drop into the sixth spot. But if it’s San Jose, well, you know how things go with them.

Here’s the NCAA’s highlights on the Ferris State game last night.
Can’t embed the video, but here’s ESPN’s highlights from the game, too.
Outside the Mitten
Mike Cammalleri’s team might be mathematically out of the playoffs, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t given up on the season. The former Wolverine scored two goals in the third period last night to help the Flames to a 3-2 win over Vancouver, making him our Michi-gamer of the night.
Livonia native Torey Krug picked up his first NHL point last night, assisting on a goal by Milan Lucic.

Both the Capitals and Panthers clinched playoff spots in their game last night. It meant a little more to Florida, however.
