Still catching up from wild, wild weekend for hockey in Michigan? Here’s something to help you out.
Quick hits
Last night I watched history take place at Joe Louis Arena, as the Red Wings tied the NHL record for consecutive home wins. Have to say, it was a tremendous atmosphere in the closing moments, as the fans at Joe Louis Arena knew what was at stake. The Wings look to break the record tomorrow night, and we’ll be there to bring you plenty of post-game coverage either way.
I spent Saturday at the Joe, too, just for a different type of hockey. Michigan and Michigan State wrapped up their season series in front of 20,066 screaming fans at JLA, and the in-state rivals didn’t disappoint. Bloomfield Hills native A.J. Treais proved to be the difference-maker, posting two goals en route to a Wolverines3-2 OT win over the Spartans.
And since we’re in a weekend review rewind, might as well mention that the Spartans did top the Wolverines the night before, posting a 3-2 win over their own on Friday night in East Lansing. Captain Torey Krug scored MSU’s first two goals, then set up the game-winner. Krug was named the CCHA’s Defenseman of the Week for his efforts.
Ferris State continues to roll this season, and they’ve been named the No. 1 team in the country on various polls. Kyle Bonis was named the CCHA’s Offensive Player of the Week, while Taylor Nelson takes home the goaltending honors, after FSU swept Notre Dame this weekend.
