Shaved Ice – Jan. 26

We’ll chalk up this late posting of Shaved Ice to the fact that we have a staff working hard to bring you coverage of, well…everything.  Sometimes the daily blog is a bit late as a result. In fact, this isn’t even editor Michael Caples. I, staff writer Brian Kalisher, am pinch-hitting for Mike today, because he’s been in East Lansing working on some top-secret stuff.

Quick hits

Unfortunately for Wings fans, the team decided to forgo their typical effort and start the All-Star break early.  The Canadiens trounced the Red Wings 7-2 – ending their seven game winning streak – in a fairly uneventful contest.  Jiri Hudler’s pair put the league-leaders on the board – but it wasn’t close to being enough.

Highlight reel

Check out this victory dance by Philadelphia Flyers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky from a couple days ago.  Is this an acceptable hockey celebration?  I’m not sure…

Outside the Mitten

Montreal’s convincing victory at home meant that plenty of Canadiens found the scoreboard.  One was former Michigan Wolverine Max Pacioretty – who added a goal and an assist.  That makes him our Michi-gamer of the night.

NHL All-Star game action heats up this weekend.  Sunday night should be entertaining as Team Chara will take on Team Alfredsson at 4 p.m.  The NHL, once again, opted to go with an All-Star game format that allows two captains – from the East and West – to pick squads.  NHL.com put together a mock draft of the All-Star picks.

We’ll try to get Shaved Ice up at the normal time tomorrow morning so that you hockey fans have something to sink your teeth into bright and early.
