Shaved Ice – Jan. 25

Good…afternoon.

Quick hits

Well as you can tell, this blog post is going up a few hours later than usual. Last night, colleague Matt Mackinder and I made the long, long drive down I-96 to Muskegon, to check out the USHL Top Prospects Game, in collaboration with the NHL. It was worth the trip; we had a great time checking out the action, chatting with some players and scouts (there were what seemed like hundreds, with every NHL team in attendance), and we’ll have plenty of coverage coming for you soon, both online and in the magazine.

Here was the team photo I took after the USHL Top Prospects Game last night.

Highlight reel

Check out this beauty of a goal by former Plymouth Whalers star Tyler Seguin.

Outside the Mitten

For the third straight day, a former Michigan State Spartan is our Michi-gamer of the night. This time, it’s Ryan Miller.

Speaking of Spartans, John-Michael Liles apparently received a present from Brian Burke in the form of a four-year extension with the Maple Leafs.

Carl Hagelin will represent the Maize and Blue this weekend – it was just announced that he will be one of the rookies during the NHL All-Star Game festivities.
