Shaved Ice – Jan. 23

Welcome back to the workweek everybody. I hope you were able to fill your weekend with some hockey.

Quick hits

On Friday, I traveled up to East Lansing to see the Spartans take on the Lake State Lakers. Despite blowing a one-goal lead late in the third period, Michigan State rallied and score two goals in the final 70 seconds to win the first of two with LSSU. Here was my recap of the game.

On Saturday, I had a bit of an easier drive, heading down to Joe Louis Arena instead of Munn. The Red Wings were tested in yet another shootout, but Valtteri Filppula scored the decisive goal, and Jimmy Howard stopped every Columbus skater he faced, as the Red Wings increased their home win streak to 16 games.

MiHockey writer Brittany McCormick covered the second MSU vs. LSSU game – a 2-2 regulation tie, and a win for the Lakers in a shootout. Read all about it right here.
