Quick hits
This weekend featured the first two meetings between that school in Ann Arbor and that school in East Lansing. MiHockeyNow was there for both nights – the Wolverines’ 4-3 win Friday at Yost, and the Spartans’ shootout win Saturday at Munn. The Red Wings welcomed the new Winnipeg Jets to Joe Louis Arena on Saturday, and they weren’t very nice hosts. After the visitors scored 35 seconds in, the Red Wings posted seven goals of their own to coast to another easy win. Fourteen different Red Wings recorded a point in the game.
Ferris State earned a series split with Notre Dame in South Bend this weekend. On Friday, they posted a 4-1 win over the Fighting Irish, led by goals from Andy Huff, Matthew Kirzinger, Kyle Bonis, and Jordie Johnston. On Saturday, the Bulldogs lost by the same score.
Lake Superior and Northern Michigan split their series as well. Stephan Vigier scored at the 14:54 mark of the third period to give the Wildcats a 2-1 win Friday night. On Saturday, the Lakers posted three goals in the first period and three goals in the third en route to a 6-3 win.
The Western Michigan Broncos topped Bowling Green both nights of a weekend series at BG. On Friday, the two teams battled to a shootout, where Kyle O’Kane’s broke the tie. On Saturday, Dane Walters’ first career hat trick powered the Broncos to a 6-1 win.

Outside the Mitten
Former Wolverine Carl Hagelin had another impressive performance for New York this weekend, potting a pair of goals in the Rangers’ 4-1 win Saturday night (the club’s 2,500th franchise win). However, it wasn’t enough to be named our ‘Michi-gamer’ of the weekend. Check out who took home the honors here.
