The Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) proudly announces the return of the MAHA Tier I Showcase, to be held at the Troy Sports Center on September 10-12, 2021.
The event will highlight the U14 through U18 Divisions from all of Michigan’s Tier I (AAA) organizations. Teams from each division will compete in a three-game schedule over the course of the weekend, occupying all rinks at the Troy Sports Center.
“Michigan is a hockey hot-bed that produces high end talent every year,” stated Lyle Phair, President of Honeybaked Hockey Club. “The Showcase in September provides college and junior coaches the first look at teams and players for the season, in a highly competitive environment.”
The inaugural MAHA Tier I Showcase was held in 2019. A follow-up event in 2020 was cancelled, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event’s 2021 return represents more than highlighting the state’s top talent.
“The return of the MAHA Tier I Showcase indicates a fresh start,” explains George Atkinson, President of MAHA. “There were a lot of unfortunate sacrifices made during the 2020-21 season. Nevertheless, we’re very optimistic about the 2021-22 season and the return of the Tier I Showcase is an indicator of that.”
The Tier I Directors share Atkinson’s optimism, as well as recognizing the importance of this collaboration.
“The participating Tier I organizations are committed to working together to better Tier I hockey in Michigan,” said Mike Slobodnik, Hockey Director at Fox Motors Hockey Club. “Our players should be excited to compete against their in-state peers in front of junior, college and professional scouts.”
