The Detroit Red Wings played host to the Carolina Hurricanes Sunday night at Little Caesars Arena, dropping a 2-0 decision. Filip Zadina made his season debut for Detroit, while Jimmy Howard turned aside 34 of 35 shots in the contest. Sebastian Aho led the way for Carolina, potting the game-winning goal and adding an assist on the Canes’ empty-net insurance marker. Aho’s teammate, Teuvo Teravainen, potted the empty-netter and assisted on Aho’s goal. With an assist, former Muskegon Lumberjacks standout Andrei Svechnikov extended his point streak to eight games, one of the longest in Hurricanes franchise history, to give him 11 goals and 27 points in 24 games.
