The Belle Tire girls’ 16U squad captured the 2017 USA Hockey National Championship on home ice.

With a 2-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Pen Elite, Belle Tire earned national supremacy at the Onyx Rochester Ice Arena Monday morning.

Angelina Wiater opened the scoring with a power-play marker 5:29 into the second period, and Delanie Goniwiecha added an even-strength tally six minutes later. Frankie Sanchez stopped all 18 shots she faced to earn the shutout. Belle Tire outshot Pittsburgh 28-18 in the contest.

Belle Tire outscored their opponents 19-3 with three shutouts in the process. Sanchez led the tournament in wins, while Elena Zingas led the team in points, with six.
