By @MichaelCaples – Drew Miller has cleared waivers and will be assigned to the Griffins, as reported by Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada and others. However, he might not be playing in Grand Rapids due to injuries on Detroit’s roster. With Thomas Vanek and Dylan Larkin (seven-day IR) both being injured in the Wings’ Sunday contest against the New York Rangers and Steve Ott (shoulder) questionable, there’s a good chance that Miller will be needed in the lineup.

Following Sunday’s game against the Rangers, coach Jeff Blashill commented on the team’s decision to place Miller on waivers.
“I think that was an organizational decision,” Blashill said. “I think part of that Ken Holland should comment on. I think part of it, Drew wants to play, so here’s an opportunity potentially if there’s another suitor out there where he can play. There’s some young assets that we have here that I think there’s still potential. That said, if for whatever reason as things happen, I have tons of confidence in Drew Miller as a hockey player. I’d play him any day, I’d play him tomorrow and feel real confident with him in the lineup. We’ve got lots of good players here, and we’ve got too many players to go around right now so we’re gonna make some decisions.”
Coach Blashill says Thomas Vanek (lower body) is day-to-day and Dylan Larkin (upper body) will miss the next two games. #RedWings
