The majority of the Red Wings’ representatives at the World Cup of Hockey are done with the preseason tournament, but Tomas Tatar just played a huge role in making sure his Team Europe continues on.
The Red Wings’ forward, a native of Ilava, Slovakia, scored the game-winning goal in overtime for Team Europe in their semifinal match-up with Sweden.
Here’s the goal:

Tatar also scored in regulation for Team Europe – a club assembled of players from Europe outside of the Czech Republic, Sweden and Finland.
With the 3-2 victory over Sweden, Team Europe – not expected to be a contender for the World Cup title at the start of the tournament – will now play Canada in a best-of-three series, which starts on Tuesday.
New Red Wings forwards Thomas Vanek and Frans Nielsen are also on the Team Europe roster; Team Canada does not feature any Red Wings players.
