Griffins announce signings of Borkowski, Caito

The Grand Rapids Griffins acquired two new players today for the upcoming AHL campaign.

The Red Wings’ AHL affiliate announced the signings of forward Mike Borkowski and defenseman Matthew Caito to standard player’s contracts for the 2016-17 season.

Borkowski, a 6-foot, 182-pound center, played in 12 games with the Binghamton Senators on an amateur tryout basis during the 2015-16 season, after concluding a four-year collegiate career with the Colgate Raiders.

A native of Kanata, Ontario, Barkowski played in 133 games with Colgate, and recorded 87 total points.

Caito, a 5-foot-11, 187-pound defenseman, made his professional debut with the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye in 2015-16, playing in eight regular-season games and six playoff games, where he produced a total of seven points.

A native of Coto de Caza, Calif., Caito is a Miami RedHawks product – he played in 151 games with Miami and totaled 72 points.
