The Big Ten has announced its stars of the week, and two Michigan natives took the top two spots.
Shelby Township native and Wolverines forward Kyle Connor was named the conference’s first star, while Marysville native and Buckeyes forward Nick Schilkey checks in at No. 2.
Connor, the reigning USHL player of the year, scored two goals and added an assist in the Wolverines’ 5-2 victory over Ferris State in a B1G vs. WCHA showdown at Yost Ice Arena last Friday night.
On the season, the freshman forward has 24 goals and 27 assists for 51 points in 28 games – the best points total in all of NCAA hockey. It was his fifth B1G weekly award of the season.
Meanwhile, Schilkey scored one goal and added four assists in the Buckeyes’ weekend split with Minnesota. All four of Schilkey’s assists, however, came in OSU’s Saturday night 7-4 win, as the Buckeyes’ captain powered his team to victory.
The junior forward has 30 points on the season, already eight more than he did last year. It’s the second time he has been honored by the conference.
